This question paper has a total of THREE pages.
Instructions
1.There are 3 sections: Section A 20%, Section B 40%, and Section C 40% for a total score of 100.
2.For section A, write the answers directly in the blanks to fill up. For section B, write an answer of no more than 800 words for each question. For section C, write an answer of no more than 1,200 words.
3.Answers should be based on the course materials only, except where illustration examples of your own are required.

Section A – Fill in the Blanks (20%)

Fill in all of the following 5 blanks with suitable answers. Each answer carries 4% of the total score.

  • Enji is working hard to keep his job. Unfortunately, his boss is very demanding and never spares Enji harsh criticism if anything goes wrong.  According to Freud, how might Enji’s id, ego and superego be reacting to such a situation? Explain 3 different defence mechanisms that Enji may use to cope with the anxiety so arisen.  
  • As humanistic psychologists, both Rogers and Maslow emphasized the importance of self-fulfillment for a healthy personality. Discuss their similarities and differences in the account and the challenges involved.
