BELOW IS THE COLLEAGUES POST I AM TO RESPOND TO:
On January 1st, 2020, I decided to quit smoking cigarettes. I was successful in my commitment to quit cigarettes. However, about 6 months later I started vaping. I thought it was safer because I believed it was just water vapor and a small amount of nicotine. I recently quit vaping due to having COVID and not being able to breathe. This has put a real scare in me. I recently saw a commercial ad on my computer about the dangers of vaping, and I had no idea of all the dangerous particles I was putting into my body.
According to The Real Cost, there are metal particles found in vapes. These metals include nickel, tin, and aluminum. Also stated “The aerosol you inhale is not just water vapor and may contain dangerous chemicals”. The cognitive and emotional connection I have toward the ad would describe my understanding of the dangers of vaping and how this made me permanently change my behavior. As I read Perloff, (2021) The media and internet are filled with factually inaccurate information on a number of topics. Sometimes the conveyed truthfully but turn out to be false. The information is false and spread for propagandistic goals in what is known as disinformation. Teens are especially vulnerable to what they see on social media and the internet. To which the popularity of vaping is everywhere.
The language element which was used in this ad I would define as powerful speech. Although, there was no sound in this ad, the elements of words and the visual effects were very powerful and caught my attention. The ethical strategies used in this ad would be defined as truthful in serving the public. The Institute for Advertising Ethics principle 1 states “Advertising, public relations, marketing communications, news, and editorial all share a common objective of truth and high ethical standards in serving the public. The ad included truthful information about the dangerous chemicals found in vapes.
