PSU Themes of Malcolm X the Ballot or The Bullet Speech Article Questions

I’m working on a history question and need support to help me learn.

These questions ask students to analyze the speech “The Ballot or the Bullet” (1964) by Malcolm X, the Black Panther Party’s “Ten-Point Program” (1966) and “El plan espiritual de Aztlan” drafted at the first National Chicano Youth Liberation Conference in Denver, Colorado (1969).

Please answer the following questions:

  • Describe three of the major themes of Malcolm X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet” speech?
  • How do you see these themes from “The Ballot or the Bullet” reflected in the “Ten-Point Program” and “El plan espiritual de Aztlan”? (If you feel that any of the themes you mentioned in your answer to question one are not reflected in the latter two primary sources, then state this explicitly).
  • What do the commonalities between these three documents indicate about the relationship between their authors and the movements they participated in?
