You will have 50 minutes to plan and write an essay on the topic assigned below. Take the full time to plan and write your response. Read the topic carefully. You will probably find it best to spend a little time considering the topic and organizing your thoughts before you begin writing. DO NOT WRITE ON A TOPIC OTHER THAN THE ONE SPECIFIED. An essay on a topic of your choice will not be acceptable.
An essay question is given in order for you to demonstrate how well you can write. You should, therefore, take care to write clearly and effectively, using specific examples where appropriate. How well you write is much more important than how much you write, but do not slight the topic.

In “Lives on the Boundary,” educator Mike Rose narrates educational moments that were particularly important to him. Spend some time thinking about the education you’ve received: the schools and classes you’ve attended, the teachers you’ve had, the books you’ve read, the projects you’ve worked on.
In your essay, with this class as an audience, tell us about a particularly important moment or event as concretely as possible, and explain why it was, or is, important to you.
