Part 1: We tend to think of aggression as a human emotion and not a social concept. However, as you can surmise from your reading this week, while anger is a natural human emotion, aggression is a very social construct. Pull out and describe two points from this week’s reading that surprised you to learn and how that changes your thinking moving forward.
Part 2: Also, choose ONE of the following to answer (Saylor Foundation n.d.). Remember to support and explain your answer with terms from your reading.
- Review a time when you acted in an aggressive way. What do you think caused the behavior? Were there particular negative emotions that were responsible?
- Consider a time when you or someone you know engaged in an aggressive act with the goal of reducing further aggression (catharsis). Was the attempt successful?
- Describe a time when you were reinforced or punished for your aggressive behavior or when someone you knew was. Was the attempt to reduce aggression successful?
- Give an example of how children or adults might model aggressive behavior from the media.
- Do you or people you know watch a lot of TV violence or play violent video games? How do you think this exposure is influencing you or them?
