Student Presentations on Readings in American Mashup

Each student must make at least one class presentation on one of the assigned readings from American Mashup: A Popular Culture Reader. The presentation should only last 4-5 minutes and cover each of the following points.

  • Identify the author of the text. Present the most relevant information about what she/he does for a living, not all of the person’s biography. You may (and probably should) go beyond just the information contained in your textbook.
  • Locate two “Golden Lines” in the reading. Each Golden Line should be a section of the essay (1-2 sentences each) that you found interesting or important. Each one should be a significant idea in the essay, not just a minor detail. You need to explain why you think these passages are important or interesting.
  • Identify one “Problem Passage” in the reading. This should be a section of the essay (no more than 1-2 paragraphs) that is difficult or complex, one that needs further explanation or discussion in order to clarify it. You need to explain why this passage was particularly complicated or difficult to understand.
  • Choose an example that either supports or contradicts the key points that the essay makes. It cannot be an example that the writer uses in the actual essay; it must be one of your own choosing. Explain briefly how the example supports or contradicts the key points that the essay makes.

You must determine how you present the information to your classmates. You may be as creative as you wish so long as you cover all of the requirements.

Just read the article and answer these questions.
