Let’s take a look at the first sentence of the essay:
Literacy practices encompass the cultural ways that involve the utilization of written language and also in readings that people rely on their day to day activities.
I noticed that your introduction begins with a very general statement. This is called a funnel introduction because it starts with a general statement and then funnels down to the specific topic. Consider starting with a focused, more interesting statement instead, one that really grabs the reader’s attention.
As the assignment is to describe your personal literacy practices, this would have been a much more focused first sentence:
In my daily activities, there are several literacy practices that I normally engage myself in.
Then, as part of the introduction, list several practices the essay will discuss to give your reader an overview of the essay.
Let’s look at this sentence:
The first literacy practice that I engage in is reading of daily newspapers and articles.
This is a fine topic sentence for the first body paragraph. The body paragraph would include details about which newspapers and articles you like.
If the paragraph changes topic, write a different topic sentence and include details only about that topic.
For example, look at this sentence:
The other aspect of my life where reading lays a significant part I academics.
I think there is a typo here. This is another topic sentence because the topic has changed from newspapers and articles to academic reading. Do you see?
The essay is a little over three pages long. Let’s take a look at the assignment again:
Assignment Expectations
Write four to five page essay that discusses your literacy practices and uses of communications technologies today (right now).
The essay does not meet the minimum length requirements for the assignment. Some students will write one line past the minimum length to make sure it is fulfilled. In this case, write four full pages and one additional line.
I am giving this work a grade of PR (Pending Revision) because it does not meet the minimum expectations of the assignment in terms of length. The revised work must be uploaded to the additional student files area of the module before the end of the course. If the work is not revised, the grade becomes a 0.
