Jail overcrowding is a problem, because when you have so many violent and non violent criminals together horrible things go wrong. The thing about overcrowding prisons is there isnt much time to react to outbreaks, offenses, problems, and other things that turn disasterous. the main reason for this is most likely under staffing. If a prison is overcrowded it drastically impacts rehabilitation and treatment programs. with more inmates and not enough workers things are overlooked and drugs and other contraband is smuggled in easily. This does not allow inmates to have certain rehabilitation that they need, like weening off drugs, alcohol or nocotics. i would suppose the proson hire a certain amount of guards per every prisoner. this would allow guards to overlook treatmeant and rehabilitation the way inmates need it to become better.

One of the causes of jail overcrowding is the number of inmates exceds the space that correctional institutions has and also offenders whether first time or repeated are being sentenced to jail time. The consequences of jail overcrowding is the lack of privacy which could lead to mental health problems and cause increase of violence, self harm and suicide. Another consequence is that disease can spread faster especially covid, and if there is no space or social distancing can not be implemented then the chances of getting the virus travels faster. Rehabilitation and treatment programs suffer due to overcrowding because everyone cannot receive the proper medical attention they need and so many slip through the cracks and it in turns allows mental health decrease. The solution that I would impose is thast first time offenders would be subjected to shorter jail time or sentenced to probation and only repeat offenders would be jailed. I also would propose that more jails be built which would have more capacity space and it would house only first offenders or offenders who is serving short sentences.

As an officer, to understand how to treat criminals in the system, one needs to put themselves in their position and look at prison from an inmate’s point of view and learn how to treat them more empathetically and appropriately as they go through a lot in prison. I imagine prison life as a lonely place with many opportunities for self-reflection, where someone dictates every minute of the day. Spending a day in prison would be a challenging experience since I imagine all the freedoms I enjoy taken away. Every prison has its subculture, which defines its values, attitudes, lifestyles, and beliefs, mainly from the pains of imprisonment (Kent, 2020).

Thus, as an inmate, it would be necessary to respect the prison subculture and keep to myself to avoid trouble, be on my best behavior, follow every instruction to the letter, and remain vigilant until the sentence is complete. Even though I am not an early riser, I would make sure to wake up on time as inmates start their day early in the morning for the formal inmate count and breakfast so that they can report to their respective jobs. Even though it would be tough, I would try to handle the prison routine well, including the frequent and uncomfortable frisking, without complaining.

In prison, it is a requirement even for all non-disabled inmates to work, and hence I would have to preserve and do everything that I am required to do daily. Moreover, prison life can be dangerous, and anyone can be the target of a brutal attack (Kent, 2020). Thus, I would ensure to be cautious and always watch my back. One of the freedoms that I would miss is spending time with family and friends anytime. I would also miss cooking and eating whatever I want, whenever I want, but what I would miss most is the simple pleasure of moving around freely and taking walks while breathing in the fresh air as the cool breeze blows over my face.

2.

Being in a prison as a criminal can not be easy. having family members that have been in prison i have heard multiple horror stories about being in the prison. Life in prison would be horrible not only because your freedom is taking away but other things such as food and worrying about whether you will live to see the next day. Different races and walks of life recide in prison. when your in prison they always say choose a side and stay with it so you can have protection while your in there. If i was in prison the most freedom thing i would miss is seeing my kids. spending time with my kids is the biggest thing i do in my day to day life.

Good afternoon class. What is the CMMI? CMMI or the Capability Maturity Model Integration ” is a process and behavioral model that helps organizations streamline process improvement and encourage productive, efficient behaviors that decrease risks in software, product, and service development(White, 2021).” The purpose of CMMI is to help companies improve their performance by providing them with everything necessary to create better products and services. CMMI can also help businesses develop measurable benchmarks that can assist with logistics regarding improving performance and encourage structure, productivity, and efficiency within a company.

According to White (2021), Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process and behavioral model that helps organization streamline process improvement and encourage productive, efficient behaviors that decrease risks in software, product, and service development.

Not only was CMMI “designed to help improve performance by providing businesses with everything they need to consistently develop better products and services,” it can also improve the business by “… developing measurable benchmarks …” and “help created a structure for encouraging productive, and efficient behavior throughout the organization” (White, 2021).

Much like SAMM, CMMI has Maturity Levels but compared to the three for SAMM, CMMI has five (White, 2021). The goal for any organization is to reach level 5, optimization, but an organization should not stop once they reach this goal. They must continue to adapt and grow.
