What do you wish you didn’t know? Why?
i wish I did not know the pain of loss. As I have gotten older it seems to actually get harder. Someone once told me that losing people as you get older gets easier because you come to expect it. I must not be to that person’s age yet because it is not getting any easier. In the last ten years I have been to the funerals of three grandparents, three great grandparents, all of my wife’s grandparents and great grandparents, two co-workers, a very close friend that I worked side by side with every day, my own brother, Saturday my Aunt passed away, and one month ago my best friend of nearly 30 years went into the hospital for what he thought was a routine checkup and never came home. I know that as we get older our bodies are getting older as well and we all are going to die sometime. I also know other people have probably lost more than I have but loss is always different for each individual so I don’t think you can really compare it with what anyone else has experienced. I am tired of the pain of losing friends and family. I know there is nothing I can do but go on and deal with the pain and eventually that pain weakens over time but I have honestly had enough of it. Fortunately I have a supportive family to help me get through these times but that family seems to be getting much smaller.
