Before you start writing, choose a contemporary political problem that you would like to understand and analyze in more detail and AT LEAST TWO—but no more than three—authors we have read whom you would like to engage in your analysis. The issue you choose is entirely up to you. Examples could be: legislative gridlock, hyper-partisanship, the role of the media in political life, the influence of money in elections, political advertising, a problematic lobbyist or interest group, the role of the Federal Reserve in determining monetary policy, the government’s role in providing access to services including but not limited to healthcare or welfare benefits, the conditions for declaring warfare and/or the conduct of warfare, deficit spending, immigration policy, the war on drugs, etc. Whatever political issue you choose, be sure to frame it in such a way so that you can adequately discuss and analyze it within the confines of the assignment. Likewise, you can choose any two authors you like. The only condition is that they must be authors whom we have read in this course.
