Using the CA transcribing conventions you’ve learned in this course (recall the Transcription Exercise), and the Transcript Starters excerpts Prof. Pillet-Shore has provided as the basis upon which to build your longer transcripts…

  -In this case, it is difficult to hear the officer on the passenger side of the citizen’s car, so transcribe the talk you and fellow group members can hear.

  -In this case, it is difficult to hear some talk due to passing vehicle sounds. Transcribe what you and fellow group members can hear, from [0:39 – 1:56], and also from [2:03 – 2:43]. Even though you do not have to transcribe this video in its entirety, be sure to watch it all the way through to its end, as the last minute shows the focal officer explaining (to a recently-arrived officer) his version of what just happened during the traffic stop.

  -In this case, it is difficult to hear some of the citizen’s talk. Transcribe what you and fellow group members can hear, from [1:20 – 2:40], and also from [7:24 –9:28]. You may divide up transcribing work among your group members as you wish. Be sure to have each member peer-review and suggest edits on other members’ draft transcriptions. Discuss drafts of each transcript with one another. Each transcript should be a collaborative product of all group members.
