Write an essay of a maximum of 1,500 words in which you analyze the arguments of our texts (The Funeral Oration, Protagoras, The Republic and The Prince) with regard to one of the following questions. Your argument should be based firmly on the texts, i.e., what the theorists actually said. Do not use outside sources!
1) Should ordinary people be trusted with the exercise of political power? If so, what are the limits of that participation? What are the dangers and/or opportunities of allowing such political participation?
2) What is the role of morality in politics? Should rulers be held to the same moral standards as those they rule? If rulers are allowed to deviate from the ordinary rules of morality, what are the limits of that deviation?
3) The texts we have read date from 500 to 1,500 years ago. Are they still relevant to our political condition? What is living or dead in their works?
