Tips to be Successful Running the Simulation
Before you jump into the simulation, ask yourself the following:
- What decisions am I being asked to make? (A: Price of the cartridge or platform, royalties paid to you by partners who create games for your platform, number of games or titles you will invest in (often know as R&D or Research & Development)
- What is the relationship between the decisions I am making and consumer demand?
- What is the relationship between the decisions I am making and profit?
- See example summary chart of relationships (make your own)
Now you are ready to make decisions. After you make a set of decisions, use the information generated to understand the situation. Use the new data available to answer the following questions:
- Did things work out as expected? If so, great. If not, why not?
- What did my competitors do?
- How do my results compare with with my competitors?
- What can I do to more effectively respond to the market environment? What adjustments do I need to make?
- Remember the basic relationships between your decisions and consumer demand and profit
- Remember to be responsive to the competitive environment
Slow down. Don’t stress (take deep breaths). You are graded on your learning not your firm’s performance in the simulation.
If you reset the simulation, you will lose the results from that round. So take a screen shot or print the screens if you want to save the results from a round.
