Pitt Community College Circle Time Discussion Questions

I’m working on a social science discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Introduction

In this module, you have learned that group/circle time offers a time of day when children develop understandings about themselves as group members. They enjoy language together by using familiar songs, favorite fingerplays, changes, and a wide variety of activities. Children gain self-confidence, feelings of personal worth, and group spirit. Group times are often conducted as both instructional and “sharing Times” within programs that are designed for an abundance of child-selected and child-initiated activities.

The Prompt

Respond to the following discussion question(s) for this module:

Task: Imagine yourself as a teacher conducting a morning circle time to start the school day and announce the daily happenings and activities. Answer the following questions using a few sentences to a paragraph:

  1. What goals do you have for the children attending your circle?
  2. How do you hope children will feel having participated?
  3. What are you going to do to make that happen?
  4. How will you assess whether the group time was successful?
  5. What are the pitfalls you might face?
  6. What will you consider concerning the location of your circle? For a top score, you must respond constructively to at least two students.
