Physics – Snell’s Law Report

Please assist in the calcuations of the refractive and incident ray and refractive index according to Snell’s Law. An example calculation must be done by hand however all further calculations can use excel as long as the formula is provided.

A student carried out an experiment to verify Snell’s law of refraction by measuring the angle of incidence i and the angle of refraction r for a ray of light entering a glass block. The student repeated this procedure 7 more times. The data recorded by the student is shown in the table attached documents.

  • Complete table calculations
  • Plot the graph Sin i Vs Sin r
  • Using your graph, find the refractive index of the glass block by finding the gradient from the graph.
  • Use the data to verify Snell’s law of refraction.
  • Explain how your graph verifies Snell’s law.

Please include any sources used as well.
