Mastery of Course Goal #1 is assessed through this assignment. This assignment provides an opportunity for you to apply select pieces of a decision-making framework to an existing dilemma.

You will compose a position statement expressing your stand on an ethical issue in healthcare, as assigned by your instructor. You will do in-depth research later in the course, but not now! This is a brief “opinion statement” with two specific references described below. Use a 3rd person voice such as “This author believes…” or “This nurse values…” to maintain a scholarly tone.

Developing this paper requires reflection on your personal values and life-long ethical beliefs, and a brief review of the 6.0 Model for Ethical Decision Making located in the Ethics in Nursing (week 1) materials. Information you will include to support your position ranges from a discussion of personal values, the stake-holders involved, and exploration of viable options to resolve the issue.

Scholarly references for two content areas requiring references are provided here: one supports your choice of applicable ethical theory from two basic options and the other is used to identify a supportive provision from the ANA (2015) Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Use the Bonde & Firenze discussion of ethical theories, linked here, to support your theory choice.

Your paper will be a maximum of 3 pages, excluding title & reference pages, and follow APA guidelines.
