Perform a Personal Digital Investigation

What have you posted on your social media accounts recently? Was it a recent trip or office function? How much of your personal life have you posted online with very little security controls? There is a vast amount of information concerning everyday people publicly available on the web; all you need is time and basic online investigative skills to find it.

Using OSINT techniques, conduct a passive online investigation on one of the senior officers that you identified in the previous assignment. Document the process as you go, so it can be replicated; use screen captures to prove completion of each step.

In a Word document a minimum of 500 words in length, report the results of your investigation of the senior officer. Include the following:

  1. Full name and any aliases
  2. Personal information (address, telephone number, e-mail, and asset information)
  3. Birth date, age, other important dates
  4. Professional and personal people connections
  5. Personal interests and membership in user groups (have they taken a vacation recently?)
  6. Contribution to blogs
  7. Presence on social media websites (Facebook, Twitter, and so forth; include account names)
  8. Professional networks
  9. Public records
  10. Geo location
  11. Criminal investigations or other newsworthy items
  12. Report the findings of your investigation. As this is part of an investigation, you need to provide your step-by-step process.
  13. What are the ethical and moral implications of sharing information you find, from the perspective of the Christian worldview?

Note: If you need to provide you name or e-mail address for any of the searches that you conduct, use your online investigator persona.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
