I’m working on a social science discussion question and need a sample draft to help me understand better.

(“The use of technology in the counseling field presents therapists with ethical issues and challenges. The ACA and the Idaho Licensing Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists have developed various standards to regulate online counseling and the overall use of technology in counseling, one key standard by ACA is the H.1.a that revolve around the issue of competence. This standard requires that individuals engaging in online counseling be competent and have the necessary knowledge, certifications and skills to enable them to perform their duties effectively (American counseling Association, 2014). This standard also requires that counselors only provide services in states where they are licensed. Standard H.1.b (Laws and Statutes) of the ACA code of ethic require that counselors understand the laws both in their practicing state and the state in which the client is situated. Another standard that regulates online counseling is H.2 which deals with Informed Consent and Security. This standard requires online counselors to obtain informed consent from clients, and protect clients’ personally identifiable information (PPI) from unauthorized access.

Failure to follow standards and guidelines on online counseling could result in sanctions by either ACA, Idaho Licensing Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists, or both. Under ACA any violations are investigated by the committee and the results are communicated to those involved. If found guilty of not adhering to the standards, the committee can propose various actions to remedy the situation. For instance, individuals might be suspended from ACA for a limited period, or until they take some actions as required by (ACA American counseling Association, 2014). In case of severe or repeated violations, the committee can unanimously vote to permanently remove the violator from ACA. Fines and penalties can also be imposed by ACA on individuals who do not adhere to the standards regulating online counseling practice. Similarly, failure to follow the guidelines could result in sanctions by Idaho s counseling association. Under section 54-3404, the Idaho Licensing Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists has the power to impose fines, revoke the operating license, or suspend individuals who fail to adhere with the practice guidelines (Idaho State Legislature, 2021″).

Please provide a response to the following question:

1. You bring up a great point with regard to risks for data security and privacy. In fact, this has probably been one of the biggest issues with telehealth and online assessments. From an ethical perspective, counselors are required to share how the client’s information is kept private and secure. As a clinician, how might you help clients understand how their data and information is secured, or what steps might you take to help them feel at ease?
