Parental/adult responsibility for managing media in the lives of children is fundamental.

Parents have a right to expect that society and its entertainment industries that market to children accept responsibility for not harming children.

This is the current debate that is often heard related to media, children, parental concerns, and a great deal of “who is responsible” rhetoric in today’s society.  Research the topic of media effects on children.  You may choose to focus on TV, movies, or video games (choose only one).  Using the concepts from this course choose one aspect of media effects as your focus.

For the entire exam you must:

·         Research both sides of the debate (At least three sources for each side)

·         Integrate at least one theory (minimum requirement)

·         Use the Ecological Model illustration for the context of the child’s reality

·         Decide from the research if it is best to put all responsibility on the parents, or all on the part of the entertainment industry that markets to children, or if both sides must take responsibility.

o   Note: This idea is not your opinion; take the conclusion from the research

·         Find sources that support the perspective that you decide is most appropriate

o   Add two more sources to bolster your perspective
