Overview of the WireShark Homework Assignment #2

The goal of the assignment is to further the student’s understanding of the TCP/IP protocols under
discussion in the AIT-622 course. This will be done by demonstrating an ability to analyze data
collected on an internet or intranet.

• This is a hands-on set of lab exercises for a graduate level course in the computing field.

• The graduate student is expected to read outside books, materials, and learn how to use
resources in order to complete this assignment.

• A fundamental understanding of computer technology is assumed.

This data capture assignment requires that the student either pays for the use of a commercial packet
analysis product or downloads a free shareware product from the internet.

Free products that can be downloaded from the internet include WIRESHARK, WINDDUMP, and
TCPDUMP.

The choice of products is up to the student.
