This paper is intended to (1) introduce you to, or further engage with, the literature of higher education, (2) acquaint you with some of the current issues in or related to higher education governance, (3) give you practice in developing and communicating thoughtful reactions to what you read in the literature, and (4) help you make connections between theory/research and current realities of governance and organization.
Your task is to find a major article (from a source listed below unless otherwise pre-approved) relevant to organization and/or administration in higher education, read and reflect on it, and write a short 1000-2000-word reaction which briefly summarizes the article and communicates a thoughtful reaction to it.
In this publication, the audience is higher education researchers and practitioners. It is not enough to merely say something is interesting or that you agree or disagree. We want to know your thoughts. What do you think about the assertions presented in the article? Why do you agree or disagree? What additional information can you provide based on your own research and/or practice? How is it related to our study of organization and governance in higher education? Interpret and make meaning of the article.
Be sure to include an APA citation for the article at the bottom of the page.
You will submit this article and I will provide feedback and food for thought. You will then submit a revised version of the article at the conclusion of the semester. The goal is to get these articles publication ready so that, if you choose, you can submit it as an opinion article for a higher education blog.
