Part A

You are required to develop a write up on one of the given topics below (as

mutually agreed between your group and your course coordinator). Study and

observe some business processes in Oman from the perspective of the

application of the OR tools. Use the process of abstraction to state a problem and

present its solution.

The write-up should be structured around the following heads:

1. Title (please refer to the list of topics below)

2. Introduction

3. Details in context of OR Modeling and Solution

4. One problem, with complete solution

5. Simple practice questions (without solution)- three questions

6. Bibliography

List of Topics: (to be distributed randomly): Please check your group members

and topic assigned to you on the Groups and Topic Allocation sheet.

Instructions: Please present your answers neatly and clearly. Don’t copy materials directly from

the book. Write in a simplified way which others can understand. Use paraphrasing while

referring in general. Include the given cover page (given at the end) with the name of each group

member and SID. You will be required to submit it through SULMS/Turnitin Software. The

process will be demonstrated to you in one of the lectures. No late assignments will be accepted.

It is essential to discuss the assignments with your group members and the writings of the

assignment must be done in the form of MS Word document.

For this part of the assignment, written coverage should not exceed 10 A4 size doubly spaced typed

pages, using 1 inch margins on all the sides. Illustrations to be inserted as Appendices referred

appropriately in the main text. Any additional material can be included as support documents, but it will

not be evaluated. Each paragraph and section should begin with a new line. References to be cited

using the Harvard system where references in the text give the author and date of publication in round

brackets (Belwal 2012) and the full reference appears in a bibliography at the end of the term paper.

Where more than two authors are involved in the text reference, the first should be cited followed by et

al., as in ‘…analysis of the mobile phone market (Belwal et al. 2011).

In the REFERENCE section at the end of the article, entries must be laid out as follows:

Journal articles

Author surname, initial(s). (date of publication) ‘Title of article’, Journal name, Volume number,

first page – last page.

Books

Author surname, initial(s). (date of publication) Title, place of publication.

Compilations

Author name, initial(s). (date of publication) ‘Title of paper’, in ed(s). editor surname(s), initial(s)

Title of compilation, place of publication, paper first page-last page.
