NYU Helping People with Visual Disabilities in Society Grant Proposal

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

What I have observed within the past few years is that people are not only finding it hard to get help when it comes to their hearing but also when it comes to their vision. I noticed this at a very young age because my mother is a part of the Lions club back at home. For those of you who don’t know what the Lions club is, they provide help in the community (Lions Club International, n.d.). They are mainly known for their projects that have to do with helping those that don’t have insurance and need help with their vision (Lions Club International, n.d.). This club really tries to prevent things like those having no vision at all, whether it is children or older adults (Lions Club International, n.d.). The Lions club is where I got my idea from when it came to my grant proposal. The Lions Club mainly focuses on those in need of help when it comes to their vision. What I am trying to do is focus on those in need of help when it comes to their hearing.

When it comes to my projects, I have chosen to write a grant proposal about hearing aids for older adults in low-income communities. I think this is a good topic because I can use this university anywhere, whether it be at a senior home or for a school for older adults with special needs. I also think it is very specific to one population, which makes it harder to find scientific information about the population, but it is easier to find communities that I can use in this grant proposal. I think the grant proposal is probably the most appropriate out of all of the other options that we were given to write about. I say this because of the topic that I chose. Overall one strength of my topic is how specific it is to a certain population. One weakness I would say has to do with how specific the population is because it is that much harder to find the scientific research behind it. What I am trying to do for those older adults in low-income communities that can’t afford hearing aids is be able to buy hearing aids or some kind of other auditory devices for them to use. This is why I think the grant proposal was the better decision when looking at the different papers we were able to choose from.
