I’m working on a english writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

In Module 9, you will review and analyze the characteristics of Classical Hollywood and Film Noir styles and formulas in film.

Tasks and Materials

  • Read/view PowerPoint: What is Classical Hollywood Style?
  • Read/view PowerPoint: What is Film Noir?
  • View: “Define Film Noir”
  • View film: Double Indemnity (1944) Producer and director: Billy Wilder, Screenwriters: co-written by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler. Starring: Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G. Robinson.
  • Analyze The Long Goodbye Film

Consider the ways the film, The Long Goodbye adheres to and departs from the conventions of film noir. Please review the materials from Module 9 to help you. Then, in a response:

    • Describe a few ways the film thwarts the conventions of film noir (number them).
    • Discuss ways that the film adheres to the style, subject, and spirit of film noir (number them).

If you use ideas from the articles (or the novel), you must cite them with in-text citations. You must also use your own ideas and analysis as you assess the film against the criteria of film noir, however. Aim for approximately 250-300 words for this assignment.
