Nova Community College Autoethnographic Text Essay

I’m trying to learn for my English class and I’m stuck. Can you help?

Pratt’s definitions of an autoethnographic text “Arts of the Contact Zone,” Mary Louise Pratt talks about the “autoethnographic” text, “a text in which people undertake to describe themselves in ways that engage with representations others have made of them” (35).

Write 2 linked paragraphs in which you compare and contrast Gloria Anzaldúa’s “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” to Pratt’s definitions of an autoethnographic text. You should imagine that you are writing to someone who is familiar with Pratt’s speech and Anzaldúa’s chapter, so you do not have to provide tons of background information.

You will want to think about how Anzaldúa’s chapter could be read and analyzed as an autoethnographic text—and, importantly, about how her text does not actually perfectly fit Pratt’s description(s). Your goal, then, is to compare and contrast Pratt’s definitions of contact zones and autoethnographic texts with Anzaldúa’s chapter as an example of that kind of text. You should spend one paragraph comparing the two authors’ texts and one paragraph contrasting the two authors’ texts, but the order in which you do that is up to you.
