second question – Describe the cultural function of a specific element from myth (short paragraph,Use your own words as far as possible)

an example answer for each :

The experimental speculative fiction writer Michael Moorcock was born at the outbreak of the Second World War, and grew to maturity during the retreat from Empire that occurred in the following decades. His most famous character is probably Elric of Melnibone, a figure that inverts the standard techniques, motifs and tropes of fantasy fiction. Unlike the famous characterisation of Conan, Elric is an exceptionally sophisticated prince from an ancient culture that used to rule his world. He is himself a powerful sorcerer and relies on his black sword Stormbringer to give him the energy he needs to live. His people are safe from outside intrusion until Elric throws away his throne and betrays them. There are important parallels here with the history of the British Empire; in effect, Moorcock is producing in this character a meditation on the end of Empire and the stories and myths associated with it. He has been credited with influencing writers such as Philip Pullman, Neil Gaiman and George R.R. Martin
