NIU International Trade International Transportation Question

I’m working on a international trade multi-part question and need a sample draft to help me learn.

1.) Read Chapter 3 in the textbook, International Logistics; The Management of International Trade Operations, and answer the enclosed questions.

1. What does the term “TEU” mean?  How is it related to international transportation infrastructure?

2. The World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index reviews the following six elements for countries across the globe:

The efficiency of customs

The quality of transport infrastructure

The ease of arranging competitively priced shipments

The quality of logistics services

The ability to track and trace shipments

The timeliness of deliveries

Review the “Score Card” of one country at the link below, compare the country to the US or another country (tool available on web site), and discuss what you learned.

2.) Read Chapter 6 in the textbook, International Logistics; The Management of International Trade Operations, and answer the enclosed questions. The textbook is not yet updated for Incoterms 2020, but the publisher’s PowerPoint is.  We will discuss the differences in class.

1. Define the terms pre-carriage, main carriage, and on-carriage.

2. Discuss the difference between transfer of responsibility for the goods and transfer of title.

3. Which Incoterms® Rule(s) require(s) the exporter to pay import duty in the buyer’s country?

4. Which Incoterms® Rule(s) require(s) the exporter to pay for cargo insurance?

5. Describe two common errors with the use of Incoterms rules.

Select a foreign port from the World Port Source website (http://www.worldportsource.com/) and research its infrastructure (on that website and you can find others).

3.) Read Chapter 9 in the textbook, International Logistics; The Management of International Trade Operations, and answer the enclosed questions.

1. Why is it so important to carefully prepare all of the documents for an export shipment?

2. Describe each of the documents below.  Who prepares the document? What is the purpose of the document?

Proforma Invoice

Commercial Invoice

Certificate of Origin

Certificate of Insurance

Bill of Lading/Air Waybill

Packing List

Shipper’s Letter of Instructions

3. What is the difference between a straight and a negotiable bill of lading?
