New York University Reading Experience Reflection Paper

I’m trying to learn for my English class and I’m stuck. Can you help?

Reflect on how a reading experience (for a class, for personal pleasure, or for another reason altogether) has given you power, or choice, in your life. Did a text ever make you feel able to tackle a problem in a new way? Have you read a story, or essay, that made you feel seen or known (by the author) in a way you hadn’t felt from others in your life? Have you ever found yourself reading, and as you read, an area of your life that felt confusing, unsure, or even painful, seemed to open with new possibilities? What was that like to experience that power? Did it change your experience of reading and learning?
