This unit focuses on Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT), the exploitation and analysis of imagery especially within the Defense and Intelligence Communities as it pertains to battlespace situational awareness/real time situational awareness. We discussed the importance of GEOINT in the collection of “real time” intelligence within the defense and intelligence communities. We also discussed the role of GEOINT in assisting in the response to natural disasters, and even in predicting some. As emphasized in the lecture, what makes GEOINT different from the other collection disciplines is that the technology developed by the military now has been embraced by the business community, especially as it pertains to GPS and Location Based Intelligence (LBI) or Location Based Analytics.
