  1. ad and follow the instructions in the HTML Tutorial (Links to an external site.) developed by NOVA Professor Judy Miller that show you how to create a website. Please note that many students create their own customized website as they work through the tutorial. Others work through the tutorial and then create their customized website later. See the end of this assignment for a table of web site requirements.
  2. As an additional resource, please review the W3Schools HTML Tutorial (Links to an external site.)
  3. Review the W3 Markup Validation Service (Links to an external site.) page for validating your web pages. You must submit the validation links in the comments–and your pages must pass validation.
  4. We suggest using Repl.it (Links to an external site.) to develop and host your website — it’s like Google Docs for programming, but please consult with your instructor to see if they prefer another web development tool. The instructions below assist users who are using Repl.it.
    1. For the project submission, you simply have to submit the URL of your “Repl” (a ‘Repl’ is what a project hosted on Repl.it is called).
  5. Only if you do not use Repl.it do you need to review the svg icon download downloadinstructions. Also if you DO NOT use Repl.it:

Mac users sometimes have trouble getting started with this assignment. Here is a video to assist them with getting started. Please log in with you MyNOVA account or Nova email ending with email.vccs.edu if you are prompted for a log in. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jG06c9l2IXb5AJSDpwrUyqAGg3CczKv3/view?usp=sharing (Links to an external site.)

In addition, Mac users sometimes have default settings that need to be changed for TextEdit. Here is a video showing how to change these default settings and if needed, how to download Brackets as a better text editor for Macs.

Getting Started

In this project, you are going to design a web site using what you have learned from the HTML Tutorial (Links to an external site.).

You can get as creative as you want and make a web site about any topic that is socially acceptable (ideas include sports teams, cars, musicians, recipes, pets, flowers, vacations, hobbies, holidays, meals, fashion, shoes).

First, you must decide what your web site will be about and what components you will include. Sketch a rough draft of the titles of headings, paragraphs, lists and find some images on the web to use in your website. Below is a an example “wireframe” which is how you ‘sketch out’ the layout/design for a web page:

Second, start coding, preview your code in the browser, and validate your web pages. (all of this is integrated together if you use Repl.it–except the validation)
