1. From the readings we can see that operating a global value chain is a complex undertaking with many things to consider. We looked at the fair trade system and how it attempts to improve the livelihood of suppliers at the bottom of the value chain.
The question this week is: Do companies have an obligation to source their raw materials through “socially responsible” means such as Fair Trade? Use the framework of virtue ethics to craft your arguments.

2. Case Analysis: Google in China (attached file below)
Instead we will be reading and analyzing a case study about Google in China. This case is interesting because it is turning the tables and showing us a situation in which a company tried to behave ethically but it wound up costing shareholders financially.
The final paragraph poses several questions regarding what Google should do in the future. Focus your response on these while also applying the theories that we have covered in class.
3. Pestel Framework
Start by considering an industry or business that you feel is currently being affected or will soon be affected by a change in the general environment. Try to thoroughly answer these questions in your post:
1. Discuss business or industry will be presented with an opportunity or threat because of a change in the general environment. Why?
2. How might the business prepare itself to overcome the threat or take advantage of the opportunity?
3. What new ethical dilemmas are presented by this change in the general environment? (This one will take some critical thinking but give it your best shot. For example, changes in the technological segment allowed Netflix to start efficiently streaming live content, but this came coupled with privacy concerns as user data was being collected and distributed to advertisers.)
