Hosting a Static Website on S3

The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to use the Amazon S3 service to host a static website.

How to start:

1. Find your ‘HTML Assignment 1: Travel Guide’ website
2. Create a custom error page and place it within the same ‘Travel Guide’ folder
3. Sign in to your AWS account
4. Get into your AWS Management Console
5. Select S3 from the console under the ‘Storage’ category
6. Create a bucket and use it to host your static website (Travel Guide) following the steps described in ‘Hosting a Static Website with S3) videos

NOTE:

For this assignment, you need to use your ‘Travel Guide’ assignment as a static website to host on S3. Before uploading your website documents to your S3 bucket, make sure your website works properly. You may use the feedback you received to address issues (if any).

How to Submit:

To submit this assignment you need to submit your website URL (the endpoint of your S3 bucket). Before submitting your URL, please test it out and make sure you can access the website through that URL (no broken link or missing image must be present when loading your website)

Assessment:

This assignment has 100 points as follows:

1. Working URL that takes visitors to the homepage of your ‘Travel Guide’ website (30 pt)
2. Working links back and forth between your homepage and your subpage (20 pt)
3. No missing image on your website pages (20 pt)
4. Display of a custom ‘error message’ if the website cannot be accessed for any reason (30 pt)

IMPORTANT: Please don’t delete your S3 bucket or change its access status before your assignment is graded. When your assignment is graded and if you have no questions or concerns about your grade, you may delete your S3 bucket to avoid any additional charges to your AWS account (while using AWS free tier, you have 5 GB of free S3 standard storage for 12 months. You will only be charged if your usage exceeds that limit)
