Case Study

Ace Travel (AT) is an online tourism company which offers online consumers with attractive travel packages, airline tickets and hotel places worldwide. AT established in 2002 in a small town of High Wycombe, however; AT has now grown over the years into a major UK travel operator with a turnover of over £3 million per year. AT main office is located in High Wycombe and during the past 10 years AT has also established further 8 regional high street shops to offer visitors travel packages.

AT maintains a centralised database in High Wycombe which supports and manage online travel bookings. All other regional shops also have their own centralised database systems which hold key data about their direct travel bookings. At present, AT databases are updated on a daily basis at the end of the day and then regional managers manually share reports to each other. This present situation contributes lack of effective decision making and undermine travel bookings set targets. Now, the management of the company has started to focus on its poor decision making where the management is committed for a big change which can improve their decision making and to utilise key information and insight into all existing databases so that the regional managers fully aware on real-time travel bookings information in order to meet their bookings set targets.

AT is also concerned with online consumers complains in respect of constant booking delays on their chosen travel packages. After thorough investigations, it is found that company’s online database was down on numerous occasions due to in-house daily backups, cyber-attacks due to insufficient use of security layers and databases server overloads. Management is very keen to fix these interruptions with using cloud-based technologies.
