1. Music – Choose a piece of music that is of major significance to your life and, using relevant details from “basic elements of music” (harmony, rhythm, tone, melody, dissonance, silence, lyrics), discuss what kinds of musical features define this piece musically and help make it special for you. Based on these elements, would you recommend that others should think this is a special piece? Why? write about Yanni nostalgia.
2. Happiness – Think about a work of art (music, literature, film, etc.) that makes you “happy.” Consider the different theories of happiness presented in Chapter 12 (hedonism, Epicureanism, stoicism, Aristotelian reflection, Buddhism), and then describe the type of happiness the work generates for you. Be sure to support your answer with details from the work.
3. Freedom – As a citizen of the United States (or another country, if you are studying here), what social reality seems most to limit your freedom? (Lack of financial security? The cost of college? Regulations on business? Another factor altogether?) How does this social reality limit you? How does one “reconquer freedom every day” (Goethe, Faust, from Ch. 14) in the context of social limitations? What, to you, appears to be the greatest expression of freedom? Why?

Discuss three (3) creative works of different types (art, literature, music, theater, film, etc.) , explaining how they illustrate or reflect or express your main idea. Finally, what is the significance of this idea for the goal of living a good and complete life?
