Choose a piece of music from one of your favorite films and analyze it. Where does this piece of music reside in the film and what is its role or purpose (i.e.: is it the main theme, a character’s theme or simply underscore – music that serves to enhance the scene itself)? What draws you in to this piece of music and what do you like or dislike about it? What is its emotional impact, if any? Do you think the music is effective? Why or why not? How does this piece of music serve the film or the scene? Does it accurately portray the overall meaning of the film or particular scene? How so? What specific message does it reveal, if any? Once you focused on the music, did you discover something new about the film or the scene? If so, what did you discover?
