MUS 17 UCSB Reading and Listening Exercise Question

I’m trying to study for my Music course and I need some help to understand this question.

Q1:

Write a brief paragraph answering the following prompt:

Complete this brief listening exercise — be silent for 1 minute, and write down every sound you hear during this minute. Include sounds that you make yourself, sounds of things and people nearby and in the distance. Following the soundscape terminology presented in lecture, which of these sounds would you classify as “signal,” and which would you classify as “noise”? Why? Are there sounds that don’t fit in this binary? Why or why not?

Q2:

Write a brief response (200 words) to the following prompt:

Why does Sarah Weiss repeatedly state that authenticity is malleable and political (2015: 519, 521, 523)? Why is this an important take-away for her particular case study? Do you think this concept is also relevant to Scott Marcus’ discussion of the Islamic call to prayer as a communal religious practice? Why and/or why not?
