  • Write a proposal of 2–3 pages that provides a viable plan to serve the clients’ needs using scientifically supported models of treatment.
    • Explain how the home will meet the needs of your clients.
    • Describe the type of clients who are dually diagnosed (drugs of choice and type of mental illness).
    • Are your clients adults or adolescents (age)?
    • Are your clients males or females (gender)?

Assignment Guidelines:

  • Title (first page)
  • Abstract (second page)
  • Content (2–3 pages)
  • Conclusion (last page)
  • References (final page/s)

UNIT 4 GROUP PROJECT

One of the goals of the treatment center you work at is to eventually open a new, modern treatment facility. You will be working with a team to research the current treatment models used in the field and current issues that will need to be addressed. The team will make recommendations to propose a plan for a new center.

Before starting this assignment, come together as a group and decide on what style of treatment center you are going to recommend. (I HAVE ATTACHED THE GROUP ASSIGNMENT)

Individual Portion:

As a member of this team, you will need to choose 1 treatment model used in the type of treatment facility your team has decided to recommend. Also, how would you go about developing a plan using that treatment model to address 1 current issue that you will work to improve upon at a new treatment facility? Each group member should pick a different issue to address for his or her individual portion. For example, you might choose one of the following issues: dual diagnosis issues; MR/DD and addictions; mental illness and addictions; addictions and violence; domestic violence; violence in the workplace; criminal activity; sexual abuse; or child abuse and neglect. Individually, write a paper of 1–2 pages detailing the approach the new treatment center should take to address the issue. Be sure to include both short-term and long-term goals.

Recommendation for new facility

  • Type of facility
  • Model of treatment
  • Objective: 2 current issues to be addressed
  • Plan for addressing issues

UNIT 5 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

You have learned many of the basic elements of a chemical dependency center in today’s world. Now it is time to write a report that will be used in a final proposal for a new treatment center. Consider what you have already learned, and continue your research about addiction and recovery theories, services, and continuum of care to design the most effective treatment center possible. Based on current issues that you have learned about, consider the changes you believe could be made to improve this evolving system.

Start with some of the following questions:

  • What do you think the future best practices might look like?
  • How might you care for the professionals in a field while they are caring for their clients?
  • What kind of professional development will the staff need to make this center a success? How might this improve services to those in need?

Given what you know and what your group discovered and discussed about modern treatment facilities, use your imagination to come up with a futuristic model of an addiction and recovery services center. Be sure to address the following information in a proposal of 4–5 pages:

Objective

  • Type of facility
  • Need for the facility
  • Purpose of the facility
  • Current issues or challenges the facility is designed to address
  • Mission statement of the facility
  • Philosophy or theories practiced within the facility

Logistics

  • Populations to be served by the facility
  • Treatments used in the facility
  • Physical appearance of the facility
  • Type of staff
  • Professional development that will be available to staff
  • Additional important details

  • appear client-friendly to gain the interest of potential clients
  • include information on the types of addiction the group will be addressing and potential discussion topics.

  • explain how you plan to form the group, and your reasoning for each step
  • explain how they can refer clients on their caseload to you

UNIT 4 DISCUSSION

At the community mental health center several Borderline Personality Disordered (BPD) clients have been utilizing the crisis unit with increasing frequency. They have been doing self-mutilating activities but are not suicidal; instead using it to get attention. You need to intervene to reduce the use of those services. The goal is to reduce costs of crisis intervention services for 7 clients in the center. The director is unsure of which type of group therapy should be used in this situation and wants your suggestions.

  • What type of group would you create and why?
  • Include examples of issues that would be addressed in this group and strategies that would be used in working with this type of group.
  • How would the group be beneficial to these clients and why?

UNIT 4 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

You are working in a community mental health center in a rural area that has a need for you to start an addictions group for clients with alcoholism. You meet with your boss and he asks you to bring your proposal to present at the next board meeting in order to get them on board to approve funding for this program.

  • How would you terminate the group? Include what criteria you will use to evaluate when clients are ready to graduate from the group.
  • Identify 2 group counseling approaches you might use with this population and why.
  • Identify 1-2 of the counseling issues you might encounter in the group. How would you handle these issues? Provide specific strategies/techniques and why those are the most appropriate.

  • Include examples of issues that would be addressed in this group and strategies that would be used in working with this type of group.
  • How would the understanding of ethical/legal violations be beneficial to these clients and why?
  • How would the understanding of ethical/legal violations be beneficial to you as a counselor and why?
