Project Management
Discuss one of the following topics.
*Use examples to demonstrate your understanding. Your example information should demonstrate the purpose of your chosen topic and why it is important in project management.
Do not discuss the topic in general. If the topic you chose to discuss includes tasks, provide example tasks. If you chose a diagram, make a diagram and include it in your post, then explain what information is learned from the example information in the diagram.
**Do not attach things to the discussion board. If you have an image, use the icon on the toolbar that looks like a plus sign with a circle around it to add the image directly to the forum.
Start your post by stating which topic you chose.
- Problem statement
- Project checklist
- WBS
- PERT diagram
- Critical paths
- Project communication plans
Problem Statement
A problem statement is a piece of information that is used to describe a situation or an issue to be improved upon. The results that are likely to be negative are outlined in the present situation and answers given as to why it matters. When running or planning a certain activity or project there are issues that are likely to occur. Developing a problem statement allows understanding how to go about them. Businesses and organizations are known to use process enhancement to ensure advancement in the way they work (Schwalbe, 2015). Issues that need urgent resolution are identified and dealt with to ensure successful process improvement. For example, a business may have a problem of lacking an EPR system. To make sure the issue is tackled a certain method would be followed or employed to solve the issue such as DMAIC.
A problem statement is very crucial to project management. The information serves as a tool for passing ideas or information. The communication made is aimed at improving organizations, people, and other businesses. The team that’s is employed to deal with issues that might erupt during a project development uses precise and concise problem statements to assist them to define and know the issue and come up with workable approaches (Kerzner, 2017). Decision-making processes are provided within these descriptions with crucial information in connection with these projects. The goal of the problem statement is to gather the efforts required of the process management group and direct the project’s choice. Through the problem statement, the project team is capable of maintaining its target as it stays focus. It ensures that re-evaluation occurs after the project where the solution to a certain problem is addressed (Kerzner, 2017). The root-cause study is another importance of problem statement to project management as the issue is figured out of its occurrence and prevent it from reoccurring.

Work Breakdown Structure
A project must meet its expectations. It needs to be completed on time and within the budget. Moreover, projects must meet the promised features. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a project management technique that helps to organize and manage a project’s activities, and it can help to achieve the expectations of a project. WBS helps to break down a project into smaller tasks. The WBS tasks have their properties. Each task must include a single deliverable outcome. Also, a task can be assigned to a single individual or a single group. Moreover, monitoring and performance control responsibilities must be assigned to a person for each task (Kendall & Kendall, 2019. p. 106).
In the following example, I have applied WBS to a project of building a bicycle. A bicycle consists of parts that need to be assembled. Therefore, I have divided the bicycle project into four main parts. These parts are frameset, wheels, drivetrain, and control. Furthermore, each main part is broken down into deliverable smaller parts. For instance, building the drivetrain requires assembling sprockets, derailleur, and chains. The hierarchical structure of WBS is shown in Figure 1. It is obvious that WBS technique helps to organize the project of building the bicycle (Containers, 2021).
