Discussion Topic: Relationships, Communication & Social Media
Tips for Success for every discussion: The goal of every discussion is to demonstrate your depth of thought and understanding of our text. This is most effectively done by anchoring your posts to key terms and concepts from the chapter that you explain and use correctly – in the context of the chapter. To earn 20/20 it’s wise to keep the Guidelines for Discussions close-by and use it as a checklist to ensure that all discussion requirements are met. Each chapter builds on the previous, and they will all ‘come together’ in our relationships. Therefore, to deepen your understanding (and so you take away from this class =) each discussion will focus on applying and synthesizing -blending together – course concepts.
Part 1: Interpersonal Communication (chapter 1)
Drawing upon what you learned about the transactional view of communication, the principles and misconceptions AND what it takes to be an effective communicator, compose 1-2 well-developed paragraphs explaining what you learned from this chapter that will strengthen your interpersonal communication. Please explain all key terms and concepts in your words and be specific so your understanding is most clearly conveyed. Impress me with how well you understand this chapter!
Part 2: Communication & Social Media (chapter 2)
Building on what you learned in chapter 1, let’s focus this part of our discussion on Competence in Social Media; including the benefits and drawbacks for your future success – personally AND professionally.
A. Based upon specific information in this chapter, what must you do to be competent in social media? What ideas from the chapter stood out to you as helpful in strengthening your relationships and setting you up for success professionally?
B. Locate a high-quality media resource about media use, that relates directly to your future goals and/or professional success. Practice critical thinking in evaluating the quality and relevance of the source(s) you’re considering. Please properly credit the source and include the media link. Briefly explain why you chose this resource (key ideas) and how it relates to the information in chapter 2. Your knowledge of the chapter is the most important thing to demonstrate, the resource supplements your key ideas. Have fun!
