Assessment guidance

This is a short guide to help you produce your assessment activities. It contains information about the different assessment criteria and some hints and tips on what to include for each of those criteria. The guidance also includes some examples you could use to improve your assessment.

You are required to produce a report describing the impact of change within your own organisation (or one that you are familiar with).

You should include

Assessment criterion: 1.1: Explain why organisations need to change with reference to internal and external factors.

Guidance: Start your report with a brief introduction of your chosen organisation .(I choose STC saudi telecommunication Company).

Explain 3 Internal and 3 external factors that drive and influence why organisations need to change.

For Internal factors you may consider:

  • Strategic objectives
  • Culture
  • Engagement
  • In-house capabilities
  • Downsizing
  • Changes in income streams

For External factors you should consider a PESTLE analysis; factors the organisation has no control over and which can influence an organisational change.

Assessment criterion: 1.2: Explain how change can impact an organisation’s business.

Guidance: Explain 3 ways in which change can affect the organisation, you may consider:

  • Staff morale
  • Organisational reputation
  • Organisational efficiencies and service levels
  • Restructuring
  • Engagement/Communication
  • Staff retention
  • Staff turnover

Assessment criterion: 2.1: Explain the main factors involved in the change process.

Guidance: Explain 4 key factors that are involved in the change process, you should consider:

  • Planning for change
  • Communicating the change
  • Leading the change
  • Implementation/Measuring the change

please use the change models to help you answer this criterion.

Assessment criterion: 2.2: Compare and contrast different approaches to managing change.

Guidance: For this criterion, you will need to select 3 different change models and compare and contrast the theories. You must then apply your own example of change from the organisation you have chosen to discuss within your report. The models you may consider are:

  • Lewin’s Change Model
  • Kotter’s 8 Steps Model
  • Ackerman’s change Model
  • The 4D’s
  • McKinsey’s 7S Model

Assessment criterion: 3.1: Compare and contrast the different behavioural responses people may demonstrate when an organisation is experiencing change.

Guidance: For this criterion, you will need to describe 3 different behavioural responses that may be present through times of change. You will then need to compare and contrast the 3 behavioural responses that you have chosen. To help you answer this criterion review the Kubler- Ross Change Curve model.

Assessment criterion: 3.2: Explain the role of HR in supporting individuals during organisational change.

Guidance: Explain 3 ways in which HR supports individuals during the change process. Review Daniel Goleman 5 Steps of Emotional Intelligence. You may also consider how support is provided for the following:

  • The change victim
  • The change follower
  • The change champion

You must provide an explanation of 3 different ways support is provided to individuals within the organisation.

Evidence to be produced:

A written report of 1500 words with atleast 5 relevant and cited references in APA.
