Response 1.) Research consists of investigating something in order to get the facts and come up with conclusions. This is exactly what Mosses did in Numbers 13. He listened to what Jehovah told him and sent out many men to spy on the land of Canaan. They did exactly what he told them to do, which was to go down to the land of Canaan and investigate. They were told to see how the land and the people were, whether they were good or bad, and fat or lean. These men did their job and investigated with the right information. There were able to bring Mosses back the information that he requested about the land of Cannan. Although, unlike modern research studies where things are notated, they showed him the fruit of the land and provided him the information through word of mouth.
This study did consist of some potential variables, which were independent and dependent. The dependent study seems to be the people of the land of Canaan. The independent study is the land of Canaan. The findings were communicated through word of mouth. Back in the old days, they really did not notate things on paper or through a computer because they did not have it. So, basically, they trusted their men to tell the truth and were able to provide them the information through word of mouth. The men that Moses sent to spy on the land of Canaan informed him of the things he sent them to find out but also showed him the fruit of the land, as requested. “Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit.” Proverbs 12:17. This scripture tells us that those who tell the truth have evidence to back them up unlike those who do not. The men that Moses sent were telling the truth and had the fruit of the land to back them up.
Response 2.) “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh, that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes” (Psalm 119 English Standard Version). This Biblical perspective teaches us just as we seek the truth from our Father in Heaven, present the truth when performing a research study. As Christian, we should not take individual words, take them out of content for personal gain, but seek the facts that will reveal the truth.
The data collection process was somewhat similar to a project my team had to perform at my job. I was in a Lead Program. The project was to find an efficient way for Veterans at the Veterans Affairs, could identify employees if they need any assistants finding a clinic, laboratory, or social work office. We created a survey asking Veterans if the employee’s name were more visible to ask for help would it improve their experience at the VA? The VA is a big building an individual could easily get lost or confused about where they should be, especially the older Veterans.
I used the experience I gain to complete the data collection for my research. I did have to research what type of questions should I ask participants because I knew that my audience would be around 18 years old and first-year college students. My biggest challenge was finding 1st-year college student that would participate in the study. I determined that I would ask my co-workers who have children the age of 18 attending college who was willing or had permission to participate in the research.
