Purpose
Municipal governments have the largest impact on our lives yet few Americans participate in or even pay attention to what happens at their local city council meetings. It’s now your job to help change that sorry state of affairs. Utilize information from the readings, your hometown city’s website and a recent city council meeting agenda to compose a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
Tasks
- Find more information about the issue you presented in the Hometown Issues discussion forum. Or, research a different issue that is important to the city that you think more people should know about. This could an article in the local newspaper, story you heard on the radio or something you and a friend or family member have talked out.
- Engage with your fellow citizens by composing a 300 word letter to the editor of your local paper then submitting it for publication. (Learning Objective 4)
- Email a copy to your city council member (Learning Objective 3)
