I am in the process of grading the submissions for the first assignment. I hope to have this done before your next submission. This way you can make adjustments to your next assignments prior to the due date. Again, please see me if you are having any difficulties in the class or if you wish to discuss the subject matter being presented. Some of you are not providing the detail I am looking for in the assignments. I did review some of those submitted and noticed that several had only a sentence or two in the sections of the dialogue aid sheet. I want to see you apply the material to what is taking place in society today, and not just repeat the material in the textbook. Can you find connections to what you are reading to news items or events in society today? This is what makes the study of technology far more interesting. You do get enough time to work on these assignments, and I expect each of you to critically think about what you are reading. Also, use spell and grammar check in Microsoft Word before submitting it for a grade. That will help you to correct unclear sentences or misspelled words.
In a few minutes I will post Module 2. Module 2 will explore how technology influences society from a cultural context. It shapes not only our environment, but our social and cultural traditions as well. Prior to starting this module, please view the video: Does technology shape society or does society shape technology? by Joe DiVanna (2017). This underlined title in the Module 2 folder is an active link that will take you to the video. I am sure you will enjoy this video. Within the Module 2 folder are two perspectives on technology, engineering, and social progress that need to be reviewed. Additionally, please read pages 13 – 41 in your textbook. At the end of this lesson each student should be able to identify how technology is uniquely different today than in previous generations. The student should also be able to illustrate how technology and engineering shape social and cultural customs and modes of behavior.
Lastly, some of you have not submitted the first assignment, but you have not reached out to me to discuss this problem. I am willing to work with you, but I do expect everyone to do the work. Please contact me so that we can discuss a plan for you to be successful in this class.
Assignments: Each student is to submit two Dialogue Aid Sheets for these readings. The first dialogue aid sheet should be for Chapter 2, How Society Shapes Technology.
The second dialogue aid sheet will be for Chapter 4, Can Technology Replace Social Engineering?
