Module 04 – Discussion

I would recommend that you type out this response since it is expected to be a longer post than the prior ones.

Each discussion board will offer you one specific question for you to share your thoughts, and then offer a list of several additional questions to reflect upon. You will also be required to respond to your classmates’ initial posts and develop an ongoing professional discussion with one another. I will be reading all of the posts and participating in some as well. Therefore, each DB will consist of three main portions overall:

1. Required Question/Topic
2. Choice Question/Topic
3. Responses to classmates’ initial posts

The questions or topics in each discussion board are to be used as probing questions for facilitating a professional and ongoing conversation. Discussion boards will cover information within the module to reflect assigned readings, assignments, and reflective application that are intended to help you grow in your educational path and into your ‘teaching persona’. Many times discussion boards end up with students saying that they feel they are repeating the same thing their peers are posting, so to avoid that in this course you have the option to choose (for the second portion of your post) the question or questions that you would like to use as your starting point for your discussion board post. For the submission of this discussion board, you may either type your post or create a video of yourself talking through the required items.

Discussion Board 1 Questions/Topics:

PART 1 – Required Question/Topic:

Please address all parts of the required question related to assessment. See Chapter 7: Classroom Assessment for specific references to the content needed to be conveyed to get full credit for the response.

• List the ways that assessment methods might differ in cognitive, affective and psychomoter domains.
• Think about a teacher you had in any school whom you believe was a good instructor. Did this teacher use assessment to promote student achievement? How was this accomplished?
• I would expect respondents to utilize at least two full paragraphs for their responses..
• Please refer to your textbook or assigned reading reference.

PART 2 – Choice Question(s)/Topic(s):

• What fears, concerns, or reservations do you have about allowing students to take more responsibility for the questioning and discussing that takes place in the classroom? How can you overcome those concerns?
• What forms of assessment do you plan to use with your future students? Please provide the reviewer with one example of each.
• Planning, instructing, and assessing are all related. Explain the interactions of this relationship.
• What is inquiry learning and how do you see that intertwining in your future teaching practices? What are the advantages and disadvantages of inquiry learning?
• Choose a topic or concept from your content area. Give an example of a deductive, a guided inquiry, and an unguided inquiry lesson.
• I would expect respondents to utilize at least one full paragraph for their responses..

PART 3 – Reflection Question/Topic:

• We have covered a lot of material. For this required portion I would like to hear some highlights from your point of view.
  • What would you consider as the highlight of this course?
  • What is something that you really enjoyed or you were surprised to learn, whether academically or about yourself?
• I would expect respondents to utilize at least one full paragraph for their responses.

PART 4 – Professional Conversations:

• Respond to at least 3 of your classmates’ initial posts for this discussion board. The number of classmate’s that is required for you to respond to is not very high because the purpose is to develop in depth conversations and it is not easy to do that with a multitude of people. With that said, please make sure your conversations with one another are professional, respectful, and reflect a conversation that would help you and your peers grow pedagogically. You can choose to respond with a video or with written text in the discussion board threads.

*Professional Product refers to your video submission using correct grammar, making a cohesive argument, having a confident presentation style and being turned in on time, etc. When preparing for any assignment, refrain from talking in slang and/or shorthand.
