Describe a recent decision you have made and explain how you might have used the processes explained in the chapter to make a more effective decision. I can’t see my peers post until I submit a post. Please reply with the original post by Friday so I can see my peers posts and send them to you.

The decision making process is below.

  1. Recognize that a decision needs to be made.
  2. Generate multiple alternatives.
  3. Analyze the alternatives.
  4. Select an alternative.
  5. Implement the selected alternative.
  6. Evaluate its effectiveness.

Below is the first peer.

After getting injured at work I decided to get my real estate license. After doing so I discovered real estate would become more of a full time job than I had expected. When considering the decision making process, I had ignored the first step completely, in fact, I ignored the first five steps.

While I had taken action, I believed it would be more of a hobby and had ignored many indications that a decision had to be made. I not only didn’t look for alternative job options, I didn’t look for alternatives in which brokerage I would work for. If it could be considered that I had done any research, it was in that I had purchased a home previously. Through that purchase I discovered Redfin’s platform and structure, so I had that awareness already.

Had I utilized this process, I would have weighed job alternatives, before determining to become a realtor. I also would have gathered information about other brokerages and how they operate before committing to simply the one I had purchased through.

Below is the second peer.

Since Monday I have been trying to come up with a specific decision I have made. I make a lot of decisions in a week, some that are life and death decisions. Most of these decisions are patient treatment decisions. This may not be what the correct answer to the question we are supposed to be answering, but instead I am just going to talk more about the decision process that I unknowingly used everyday. The Decision Making Process taught in this course is a simple explanation of how we as Paramedics treat patients.

We arrive on scene and make an impression of our patient. We come up with several differential diagnosis that could be the cause of the patients complaint. While speaking to our patient we start to compare and contrast the differential diagnosis and try to narrow down it down. When we come up with potential diagnosis, we treat our patient in accordance to that protocol. Once we treat our patient we reassess them to determine if the treatment is working or if we need to change protocols.

The 6 step process I can almost guarantee everybody does in their professional or personal life. This just puts it down on paper and explains what you are doing. Like myself, people unknowingly go through this decision pathway. It is wonderful to be able to see it written down and explained.
