You have read about and you should have considered in depth the expectations men and women have for a relationship in terms of the quality of that relationship and what that quality means in terms of how they feel. These notions are explored in the articles
“Understanding The Difference Between Men and Women” by Conner, Michael G. Psy.D and “Men and Women Often Expect Different Things When They Move In Together” by Bradford W.Wilcox that I provided for you to read.
Note: if you read the article from Deborah Tannen you may want to use that one too.
Once you select one of the discussion points to respond to, use the two articles- “Understanding The Difference Between Men and Women” by Conner, Michael G. Psy.D and “Men and Women Often Expect Different Things When They Move In Together” by Bradford W.Wilcox that I provided for you to read- to support the discussion and your exploration of the issue as stated in the discussion point you select.
What you are going to do in this essay is explore the distinct differences between men and women in terms of they how they communicate and how they perceive the relationship and the way they see that relationship and what is offers for them.
Select from the following discussion prompts to form the basis of your discussion. You might want to combine two of them or select particular points from two and blend them into one main discussion point. Make sure you use the discussion point to create a focused and specific thesis statement. When I read your thesis statement is should be completely obvious to me which discussion points you are using to create the thesis.
Here are the discussion prompts to select from. Only use one or if you wanted to you could combine elements of two.
A: Men and women are fundamentally different in terms of their physical, emotional, and psychological make up. Consider how these differences impact the way a relationship, starts, develops and ultimately flourishes or fails based on the premise that if the disparities between the way men and women see each other and interact with each other are not addressed and acknowledged from the outset. You can frame your discussion around the notion that there is a sense of inevitability of relationship failure exists if there is not a proactive approach to relationship management before the relationship even starts if you want to.
C: Consider how the differences in expectations of a relationship in terms of costs and benefits as the relationship begins and then the perception of what that relationship means once it is established differs to such a degree between the genders it makes it problematic for relationships to be sustained in either marriage or cohabitation or both. Consider how these factors may contribute to relationship failure, individual discontent, and infidelity.
You should utilize the story that you think is most applicable in the context of your discussion of the issues facing couples as they form and maintain relationships.
Obviously, the core of this issue of relationships is centered around the expectations of that relationship.
The articles will form the central support of your discussion around the whole dynamics of relationship perception and cross gender communication as those sources provide information that you can use to explore and discuss this issue from your perspective.
Pull from the articles to explore and expand upon your perceptions of the gender differences.
