I posted this before but I just wanted to reminder everyone of the points in the Project grading (with some notes — think about how these areas where handled in the Mini Projects) —
Project paper should be at least 4-5 pages but 8-10 pages expected on average. The paper should have at least these sections (please enumerate these in your project):
- [10 points] Introduction (Overview and statement of the problem)
- [20 points] Background (Mathematical model and application details)
- [20 points] Solution of basic (application) problem
- [10 points] Generalization (or parameterization) with “computer” solution (Matlab, etc.)
- [10 points] Conclusion and summary of methods and results
- [5 points] References (Two references at a minimum, but three or more is better)
A note on task IV: Don’t turn the project into a programming exercise – that is, the project should be about a LINEAR ALGEBRA application and not a demonstration of programming. Also, if your programming or computer skills are not that strong, you can generalize your solution by seeking a closed form general solution (or discussing why one may not exist or cannot be found — some mathematicians have become famous showing a solution did NOT exist😉
