Reflect upon the information in the lecture regarding the high infant, child and mortality rates that prevailed in 17th Century Europe. Then review the readings by Wigglesworth, Janeway, and Fenelon in this class’s folder on the spiritual predicament of children.
In a substantial post (about 200 words) speculate upon the biological and spiritual dangers in which 17th century adults perceived children and childhood. What impact do you think this perception had upon the relationship between parents and children? What would be different about the way contemporary American parents relate to children compared to the way that 17th century parents related to them? In your response make specific reference to information in the lecture and to at least ONE of the readings about the spiritual predicament of children.
