Male to female communication is presented to be an intercultural communication as Tannen states. Her ideas are based on the proposition that boys and girls being socialised separately leads to different interactional styles and values e.g. that boys are competitive while girls are cooperative. Review her position as presented in the video (link below) and critique it based on more contemporary understandings of gender (e.g. in the work of Deborah Cameron) and intercultural communication generally.
