Project Description
This project will be based on the design and analysis of a large RFID system for an organization. The organization is Mega Mall, a 750,000 m2 , shopping center built in an area equivalent to a city block (115,000 m2 ) hosting 640 retail spaces (approximately 175,000 m2 ), 2 indoor theme parks (approximately 8,000 m2 ), a 21 screen cinema complex, a 20,000 m2 exhibition area and a 6,000 vehicle parking garage. The center retail area is on three floors, on top of a three-floor underground garage structure. The average number of visitors is about 435,000 visitors per week. The management of the organization has been fascinated by the potential and possibilities related to active RFID technology. They have identified certain work areas that an RFID system may make operations more efficient, enhance customer experience or even generate revenue streams.
The project is (Car Parking)
A great number of mall visitors come with their car and park in a huge (6,000 spaces) parking garage. As the mall is interested in providing a pleasant experience rather than just shopping, visitors may stay in the mall for hours and then forget where their vehicle was parked. The mall would like to have an RFID-based solution that enables visitors to easily locate their car in the garage. The mall’s management has not fully explored all possible options and possibilities that would present themselves trying to develop such system and expect that the team would come up with novel ideas to take advantage of active RFID and other technologies. As with any other business, the mall would like to explore any possible direct or indirect revenue streams that could pay for the cost of the project or even generate operational profits this project may be able to offer.
Solution (idea to be applied)
Briefly, the idea is attaching an RFID tag to the car and have a reader in each parking spot connected to a phone application. You first install the chip that registered under your name and phone number into the car and whenever the visitor park the car, the reader reads the tag and provides the visitor with info through the app includes; parking number, floor, instructions on how to exit and enter the parking lot, nearest mall gate and more. Also the visitor receives SMS messages with brief information in case there wasn’t an internet service provided.
